Séverine Autesserre has won the 2021 ISSS / ISA “Emerging Scholar Award” from the International Studies Association’s International Security Studies Section. In it’s announcement, the committee noted that Autesserre’s work has revolutionized the study and practice of peacebuilding, and of security studies more generally. They especially noted the importance of her fieldwork in many war zones and her careful observation of how security actors interact with each other and with local populations. The committee noted that Autesserre has won other awards for particular publications, and that praise and those publications’ influence made her a natural winner for the emerging scholar award, which is intended to recognize the overall trajectory of a scholar’s career. Autesserre’s award will be presented at the 2021 ISA Convention in Las Vegas.
