With guest speaker Liam Collins, Executive Director, the Viola Foundation; Co-Manager, U.S. Army General Wayne A. Downing Scholarship Program; Executive Director, Madison Policy Forum; Future Security Program Senior Fellow, New America; co-founder, the Urban Warfare Institute; Distinguished Military Fellow, The Middle East Institute; Permanent Member, Council on Foreign Relations.
Event Description:
Last month, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to a historic peace treaty, ending their decades-long “frozen conflict” over Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan’s overwhelming victory in the 44-day war in 2020 was the beginning of the end to the conflict. Yet this conflict, fought amidst the COVID pandemic, and then followed by wars in Ukraine and Gaza, remains understudied. Just back from a research trip to the region and having walked some of the war’s key battles, Dr. Collins will discuss how Azerbaijan won the war.
