SIWPS Member Alexander Cooley was quoted in the New York Times today about a newly-formed economic union between Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
Cooley commented that the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union “is meant to signal that…Western programs and opprobrium are not having an effect on the [Russian] economy and that Russia is developing into a distinct pole in the multipolar system.”
