Bio

David Black is the co-founder and director of Tausar.org, a humanitarian rescue operation that evacuates elderly people, women, and children from the Donbass and Zaporizhia Oblasts in coordination with Ukrainian officials, and conveys medical and food aid to the Donbas region of Ukraine. A native of New York City, he graduated from Bard College with a degree in Political Studies. He first traveled to Ukraine in October 2021 to conduct research on late WWII and early Cold War intelligence networks.

Black co-founded Technical Aid Ukraine / Search and Rescue in May 2022 with Andre West of Hanover, Germany, and Fred Attia of New York, in response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine triggered by the Russian invasion. It now enlists 20-30 volunteers at a given time in Ukraine, from Ukraine, the US, Germany and Poland, with representatives in Krakow and New York. In Ukraine they operate a fleet of seven vehicles; as of September, the organization has evacuated over 600 civilians and delivered over 100,000 pounds of humanitarian aid. Black is based in Krakow, Kiev, and Dnipro, and traveled into the Donbas in mid-August, where he will return at the end of the month.
